Safari Overview

Queen Elizabeth – Lake Mburo
This short tour introduces two very different parks: the incredible Queen Elizabeth National Park and its wildlife-filled savannah, craters and forest and the beautiful acacia forests of Lake Mburo.

You can expect to see big game such as lion, elephant, hippo and buffalo and hundreds of bird species. With chimp tracking and a variety of antelope species, this is a great introduction to Uganda.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala – Queen Elizabeth National Park
We begin the tour by making the long drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park (approximately 5 hours). This exceptional national park boasts over 100 mammal and 600 bird species and is Uganda’s pride and joy.

After making our base in the park, we make our first game drive of the tour in the northern crater lakes sector of Queen Elizabeth. Aside from their beauty, the lakes attract many large mammals including elephant, antelope and lions.

Day 2: Mweya and Northern Circuits
An early start to make the most of the morning animal activity, looking out in particular for lions. This game drive takes us across the plains of Queen Elizabeth’s northern sector and often provides sightings of hyena, elephant and thousands of the various antelopes that inhabit the park.

In the afternoon we take a boat trip down the Kazinga Channel. This is superb wildlife viewing. The quantity of hippo, buffalo and birds is simply outstanding and the impressive bird life includes Shoebill storks and African fish eagles.

Day 3: Kyambura and Maramagambo
The morning is spent in the Kyambura Gorge, tracking chimpanzees. Kyambura is home to several other primates and it is common to see black-and-white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys and baboons whilst tracking.

In the afternoon we continue into the Maramagambo Forest – tropical rainforest with a high concentration of primates. We also make a visit to the impressive bat caves; home to an enormous population of Egyptian fruit bats and pythons.

In the late afternoon we move on Lake Mburo National Park.

Day 4: Lake Mburo National Park
An early rise at Lake Mburo and a morning game drive on the look out for zebra, topi, impala and the giant eland. The acacia forests and wetlands of Mburo also provide great chances to see the rare sitatunga antelope.

In the afternoon we enjoy a boat trip in the main lake, providing further game viewing and great bird watching.

Day 5: Lake Mburo National Park – Kampala
Following a last game drive, we make our way back to Kampala, where the tour ends.
