4 Days Rwanda Gorillas

Safari Overview

It’s not always possible to get permits to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda, which is why we offer a Rwandan alternative.

The following 4 day gorilla safari begins in Kigali, although it is common to simply drive over the border on a tour that begins in Kampala, Uganda. The gorillas are found in Parc National des Volcans, the Rwandan part of the Virunga Conservation Area, that includes Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla Park.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali – Parc National des Volcanos
You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to Kigali for lunch and a briefing on the next day’s trekking. We then depart for Parc National des Volcans, driving through beautiful terraced hillsides towards the impressive Virunga volcanoes.

Day 2: Parc National des Volcans
We rise early and as soon as breakfast is over (depending on permit availability) head to the park. Gorilla trekking can be strenuous and all depends on where the gorillas happen to be on that day. It can take just an hour to find them, or it can take several. Click here for details on mountain gorilla trekking.

After spending and hour with the gorillas, we return to the lodge for lunch.

Day 3: Parc National des Volcans
For those who want to go again (depending on permit availability), there is a second day tracking the gorillas. For those who want to savour the memory, or are unable to get permits, we can drive to Gisenyi, and Lake Kivu, climb the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes, or trek to Dian Fossey’s grave.

Day 4: Parc National des Volcans
In the morning we visit the local market/ visit the Golden Monkeys or trek to Dian Fossey’s grave. After lunch transfer to Kanombe International airport, where the tour ends.
